This bill was approved by majority in the joint meeting of both houses of the French Parliament.
Should women have the right to abortion or not? Up to how many weeks can abortion be allowed? Is abortion legal or illegal? Does abortion violate anyone's rights or not? While many such issues are being discussed across the world, France on Monday approved a historic bill in this regard in the joint session of both the Supreme Houses. Therefore, France has become the first and only country in the world to give women the constitutional right to abortion. President Emmanuel Macron presented a proposal in this regard before the joint meeting of both houses of the French Parliament.
Members of both the houses were present in full numbers to vote on the proposal at the Versailles Palace in France. In this session, the proposal to give constitutional right to abortion to women was approved by a margin of 780 to 72. The women representatives present on this occasion expressed their happiness by fully supporting the bill. Also, all the members who voted in favor of the bill stood up for a long time and clapped on the occasion of its passing!
Macron's promise fulfilled!
Meanwhile, on one hand, the joy of getting this bill approved can be seen all over France, on the other hand, there is a widespread feeling that the current President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has fulfilled the promise given during the elections. Especially expressed by women. There is huge disagreement on a similar bill in the United States and in the same background, the passing of this bill by majority in France is considered important. Especially after the decision taken in this regard in America, such rights have started being discussed all over the world.
Amendment to the Constitution of France!
Meanwhile, a bill was introduced to amend Article 34 of the French Constitution to give women the right to abortion. Both houses of the French Parliament, the National Assembly and the Senate, independently passed this amendment bill with a majority. However, a three-fifths majority was required in a joint sitting of both the Houses to approve the bill. According to this, this bill was approved by majority in the joint meeting held on Monday.
The first country in the world!
France has become the only country in the world to give women the constitutional right to have an abortion. According to this, women have been given complete freedom to decide to have an abortion. Previously, the 1974 Constitution of the former Yugoslavia had given any person the freedom of choice to have children. Further Yugoslavia disintegrated in the 90s. But the provinces that emerged from it also maintained the same policy. However, while stating that women could obtain abortions, the government did not guarantee this right. That is why it is important for France to guarantee these rights by passing this bill on Monday.
Mention of Simon Whaley's performance!
Meanwhile, in front of the joint session of Parliament, French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal mentioned the late member of the House, Simon Whaley. "We owe a moral debt to the women of the country. We have a chance to create history. So, we should do something to make Simon Whaley proud by voting in favor of the bill", she said. In 1975, Simon Whaley was the first person to strongly oppose the criminalization of abortion in France.
